Tracadie-Sheila’s Complexe Les Deux Rivières

 The Complexe Les Deux Rivières in Tracadie-Sheila has been designated ‘Employer of Choice’. The business, situated in the Acadian Peninsula, in eastern New Brunswick, is Canada’s first ever recipient of this distin ction which is awarded by the Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council (CTHRC) and the Tourism Industry Association of New Brunswick (TIANB). This Canada-wide program’s goal is to recognize businesses where employees feel appreciated and valued and in which they feel their contribution is acknowledged and rewarded.

‘We are trying to acknowledge businesses where employee’s actions align with its business goals, explains Réal Robichaud, Executive Director of Tourism Industry Association of New Brunswick. It’s an important recognition which demonstrates the quality of relationships between employers and employees, as well as the business’ efficiency.’ Réal Robichaud underlines how important it is that a New Brunswick business be the first one to receive this designation. ‘One of our main objectives is to counteract the lack of employees in our businesses. It’s a challenge we face because of various factors, including the population’s mobility, a reality in this province.’

elps businesses put in place better practices in attracting a nd retaining qualified employees by giving them the necessary tools and resources to attain this goal.  

The program was launched throughout Canada in June 2009. 175 businesses all over the country registered in the program. To obtain this designation, the Complexe Les Deux Rivières of Tracadie-Sheila had to go through a process taking several months in which various factors were measured, including employees’ satisfaction towards their salary, work conditions, schedules, or their employer’s qualifications.

‘It’s a teamwork that demonstrates a will to see things evolve, and to maintain a certain quality in terms of work, relationships, qualifications of employees and employers, etc.’ adds Réal Robichaud. After receiving the designation, the business will continue to collaborate with the tourism business association of its province to maintain the process of quality assessment.

An important business in the Acadian Peninsula

Situated next to the Petit Tracadie river, the Complexe Les Deux Rivières offers a multifunctional convention center for various events, as well as 50 riverside cottages a stone’s throw away from downtown Tracadie-Sheila and boat cruises on the Cajun III. Since 2005, the Complexe Les Deux Rivières also features a health center (SPA) which offers a wide range of services to soothe body and soul. Last June, the Complexe opened a 20-room hotel attached to the SPA health center, allowing its customers to stay indoors to receive their treatments. The hotel’s creation brings a welcomed variety to a region lacking in accommodation.

On August 20th 2009, a special event saw the Complexe Les Deux Rivières receive the ‘Employer of Choice’ designation in the presence of the executive director of Tourism Industry Association of New Brunswick, Réal Robichaud.

The Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council and the Tourism Industry Association of New Brunswick create a link between tourism businesses and associations, syndicates, the education sector and the governments in order to coordinate human resources’ development activities and to help maintain Canada’s tourism sector on an internati onal scale. The Council puts into place various initiatives to gather information about the job market and communicate it to the tourism sector. It also conducts national research to help employers, educators, researchers and job seekers understand the workforce dynamics of this sector.
